Apple is reportedly working on a wireless Virtual Reality headset with two 8K displays that might be launched in 2020
So Apple steals the limelight for a day with the reports that Apple is planning to enter the VR/AR segment with a BANG (headset actually). Apple, technological giant and manufacturer of famous products like iPhone, Macbook is now stepping in the VR competition with a wireless VR headset that has some insane specifications on board. Apple's VR headset is expected to hit the Apple Store by 2020.
Apple's AR/VR Capability
Apple is working on its VR glasses with a codename of T288. Apple's Virtual Reality glasses are rumored to have two 8K lenses and the capability to run both AR and VR and will host Apple's top-of-the-line chips to power high-end graphic engine requirements posed due to such high resolution (imagine playing virtual reality games on it!). And since the TV sets have begun to upgrade to 8K resolution, 2020 will be the perfect time to launch VR goggles of such caliber. It will be exciting to see how well will Apple's virtual reality googles will perform and how well will they fare against the established virtual headsets such as Facebook's Oculus, HTC Vive, and Microsoft's Hololens. Another determinant is Apple's support for its virtual reality headset via VR apps.
Augmented and Virtual Reality - Apple's Point of View
Tim Cook, the CEO of Apple, has often emphasized on the importance of Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality. As he stated in an interview:
"I regard it as a big idea, like the smartphone. The smartphone is for everyone, we don't have to think the iPhone is
about a certain demographic, or country or vertical market: it's for
everyone. I think AR is that big, it's huge. I get excited because of
the things that could be done that could improve a lot of lives."
For those who have played games like Pokemon Go already have seen what AR is like, it is an overlay of images and objects on top of real life imagery. It will be enthralling to use augmented reality on 16K resolution of Apple's virtual reality headset.
Wire-free
Apple really seems to be keen in going wireless with its VR headset to give an immersive experience on its virtual reality technology. It has patented the concept of a compact lens array to focus on gathering light to make it a more useful AR device that can operate in low light conditions. Such AR lens will cause less fatigue, improve usability while keeping the size of the AR glasses compact enough. The virtual reality glasses might also function as a standalone device that doesnt need to be connected to any TV or computer system to work, which also means that Apple will have to develop a plethora of AR/VR apps and AR/VR games to provide a good VR user experience on the go. We would love to see how well will it play out for Apple who seem very interested in entering the VR goggles industry.
