With Xiaomi Mi A2 being just a few days away from officially being unveiled, Google's Android One project seems to be finally getting a solid shape.

Mi A2 Review
It does have a flash, dont worry

Thanks to Xiaomi, Google's Android One is now finally being solidified as a project that delivers quality smartphones to the people from emerging markets. Previously seen as a failure, the project seems to be in good hands, first in form of Xiaomi Mi A1; a solid device which became a huge success. Now it seems that Xiaomi wants to go further and beyond with its Android One device series, upgrading from Xiaomi A1 and shaping it into Xiaomi Mi A2 (also called Xiaomi Mi 6X in China). A promotional video has also been released.

Although not too popular in the west but in Asia, the Xiaomi Redmi mobile phone range has been a massive success in the past few years, becoming one of the most prominent Chinese smartphone manufacturers along with Huawei and Oppo. Xiaomi began getting recognition after the launch of Xiaomi Mi 4 and its Xiaomi Redmi smartphone line especially Mi Redmi 2 Prime, and became a huge success by the time it launched Xiaomi Redmi Note 3, that's when Xiaomi mobile emerged as a major smartphone brand.

Now let's talk about the Mi A2!

Xiaomi Mi A2 Design and Display

The Xiaomi Mi A1 was strikingly similar to the Apple's iPhone7 from the back, except for the fingerprint sensor that was placed in place of the iPhone logo, it's still so strikingly similar that even my co-worker mistakenly picks up my phone at times instead of his. The Xiaomi Mi A2 looks astonishingly similar to iPhone X. While the front looks almost same as Xiaomi's own Redmi Note 5.
The bezels are slim unlike the Mi A1 and apparently the physical touch buttons are replaced with in-screen touch controls, which also means that Xiaomi slimmed down the bezels to fit a 5.99 inches screen without expanding the device much. Not to forget that Mi A2 has an 18:9 aspect ratio as compared to A1's 16:9. The screen to body ratio is 77.2% which was a much needed upgrade keeping in mind that rest of the competition has similar screen to body ratios. The dimensions are 158.9 x 75.5 x 7.3 mm, making it only 3.5mm taller than Mi A1. The device weighs 165 grams which is also same as its previous edition. The device has an aluminum body (Mi A1 had antenna lines made of plastic).

Xiaomi Mi A2 OS & Interface

The Mi A2 will have Android 8.1 out of the box with Stock Google interface, giving the true android experience. Stock Android tends to consume less battery as it doesnt have much bloatware and some of the Google apps can be uninstalled, so you get a clean device to play with. The Chinese counterpart will have MIUI  9.5 which is Xiaomi's homegrown interface.

Xiaomí Mi A2 Processor

The Mi A2 is packed with Qalcomm's Snapdragon 636 chipset which has 8 cores clocked at 2.2GHz. The chipset is a upgrade over the device's predecessor (should have been added to A1, to be honest). The chipset is coupled with Adreno 506 GPU, which is the same GPU used in Snapdragon 625.

Connectivity & Sensors

Sensors on Mi A2 include fingerprint, gyro, accelerometer, gyro, and proximity. The device has a USB-C port. The device has Dual band WiFi, WiFi direct, and hotspot.

Xiaomi Mi A2 Camera

The Xiaomi Mi A2 has made significant upgrades in the camera department. On the back are two sensors, first one is a 20 megapixel f2.0 sensor, the other telephoto lens is an 8 megapixel f1.8 sensor. The camera has phase detection, and 2x optical zoom. 4K video recording is available at 30 fps, while 720p videos can be recorded at 120 fps
On the front, there is a generous 20 megapixel f2.0 sensor for high quality selfies. The front camera can record 1080p videos.

Xiaomi Mi A2 Battery and Charging

Xiaomi Mi A2 is packed with a 2900mAh battery which is lesser than its predecessor which comes with a 3080mAh battery which is kind of surprising. Although the battery consumption was pretty efficient on Mi A1, but it is still difficult to tell if Mi A2 can provide a similar battery life, if not better. The device is said to have fast charging át 5V/2A (not quick-charge!).

Xiaomi Mi A2 Price

There is currently no official word on Xiaomi Mi A2's price. Although it can be estimated that the device might be prices at around $250. While Xiaomi Mi A2's price in India might be around INR16,000. While Mi A2's price in Pakistan might be around PKR30,000.
